Thom Powers Music Book a show
Solo Acoustic · Greenwich, NY

Songs that fill a room without raising their voice.

Thom Powers has spent over a decade playing bars, breweries, and listening rooms across Upstate New York and New England — solo, on a 1981 Martin M-36, with a voice listeners have compared to Jim Croce, Neil Diamond, and Rob Thomas.

“His musicianship and discriminating song choices suggested this might be an extraordinary listening experience.”

A decade of rooms, one guitar.

Thom Powers performs solo — vocals and a 1981 Martin M-36 — playing a mix of originals and thoughtfully chosen covers built for rooms that want music, not noise. He's spent over ten years working bars, restaurants, breweries, and farmers markets across the Adirondacks, Saratoga region, and Upstate New York, and released his debut album Rockin' Soul in 2023 with his full band, Thom Powers & Friends.

He's now taking the solo show further out — building a regional New England summer tour and looking for new rooms, not just repeat ones.

What a night with Thom sounds like

“OMG.... he is the best... he got tears in my eyes...”

— Sonali Dixit, Artisanal Brewery

My wife and I were recently in a local bar that almost exclusively features musicians who play covers. Thom Powers, performing solo and unknown to us, immediately caught our attention … his musicianship and discriminating song choices suggested this might be an extraordinary listening experience. Then a ways into his set Thom introduced an original song and our heads literally turned; he had our complete attention. He solicited requests several times during the evening and each time the couple sitting next to us joined us as we bellowed “PLAY ANOTHER ORIGINAL.” Fortunately, he abided, and we became instant fans. We have seen him several times since with three masterful sidemen whose effortless craftsmanship adds layers of texture, as well as a frisson, to the work.

Powers’ 2023 debut album Rockin’ Soul features a range of styles from the reflective “Sing For Love” to the funk of “Gimme” and “Every Time I See Your Face” to “Rockin’ Soul,” which could be mistaken for a lost track from The Band. This is rock and roll that will soothe your soul all the way down to your toes.
